Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston

In the book, Perry credited Jennifer Aniston with being one of his best friends and biggest supporters throughout his health complications. But, he also shared a bigger secret about the talented actress — he used to be in love with her!

According to the memoir, Perry was “immediately taken” by Aniston as soon as the two met before the filming of Friends began. “It was clear that this made her think I liked her too much, or in the wrong kind of way,” he shared. While his crush continued into filming the show, eventually, it did fade and they were able to build a genuine friendship.

David Schwimmer Insisted

Perry shared quite a few behind-the-scenes tidbits from Friends with a particularly wholesome one about David Schwimmer. According to Perry, despite Schwimmer originally being the highest-paid actor on the show, he was also the one who suggested that the six main actors band together to get paid the same amount.

“It was a decision that proved to be extremely lucrative down the line,” Perry writes. “David had certainly been in a position to go for the most money, and he didn’t … It gave us a tremendous amount of power. By season eight, we were making a million dollars per episode; by season 10, we were making even more.”

Health Concerns

Due to his struggle, Perry’s health has obviously had its ups and downs. The book begins with the actor sharing that he was in a coma for two weeks and in the hospital for five more months when he was 49, after his colon burst due to his dependency.

He also goes into detail about his many stays in rehab over the years (15 times in total). “I’m pretty healthy now,” he shared in an interview. In fact, he waited until he was “pretty safely sober” to be able to write the book.

The Keanu Reeves Comment

The book hasn’t come out yet and controversy has already followed it. It’s been reported by Page Six that the memoir holds the quote, “Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”

The quote is certainly intense but Perry has already issued a statement and apologized for it. In the statement, he wrote, “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu, I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”
