Australian pop star Kylie Minogue is certainly an eligible bachelorette. The singer and actress has been on the scene since the 1980s, and has sold over 80 million records worldwide. The “Spinning Around” singer has been in serious relationships, including with co-star Jason Donovan, French actor Olivier Martinez and model Andrés Velencoso.
However, the star has never officially gotten hitched. Kylie is currently dating British GQ’s Creative Director Paul Solomons. Some speculate that the star will have a secret wedding. Let’s see!
Much like his most famous on-screen character, Don Draper, actor Jon Hamm doesn’t seem well suited to marriage. In fact, he’s said as much. In 2010 the actor remarked, “I don’t have the marriage chip.”
The Missouri-born star was in a long-term relationship with American actress Jennifer Westfeldt. The pair dated from 1997 until their split in 2015. In 2008, he remarked, “To me, people get married when they’re ready to have kids.” The dashing actor is now dating actress Anna Osceola.
Another unmarried actor is Texas-born Owen Wilson. However, like some others on our list, he is a parent. Owen Wilson had his first child with then-girlfriend Jade Duell in 2011. Several years later he welcomed a second with fitness trainer Caroline Lindqvist.
In 2018, he welcomed his third, with ex-girlfriend Varunie Vongsvirates. Before becoming a father, Owen Wilson also dated some well-known ladies. He had relationships with actresses Demi Moore and Kate Hudson, and with singer Sheryl Crow.
Reality star Scott Disick’s life has been pretty well documented. He rose to fame due to his relationship with Kourtney Kardashian and has stayed in the spotlight ever since. Whilst Scott and Kourt had three kids together – Mason, Penelope, and Reign – they never tied the knot.
Viewers watched as Scott almost proposed on-screen, but ultimately it wasn’t to be. Now, Kourtney Kardashian is married for the first time to drummer Travis Barker. It remains to be seen whether Scott will ever get hitched.
Actress Dana Delany has won multiple Emmys and has been working for over three decades. But what about her love life? Well, the star has commented several times that she would like to get married.
In 2006, she said, “I turned 50 and I’m ready to get married… I don’t know who he is yet but I’m ready… He has to be smart, funny, and kind.” The following year she said, “Marriage has never been a big deal for me… But I think I’m ready now.”
Someone with the opposite point of view on marriage is actor John Cusack. In fact, when asked why he was unmarried in 2009, the star remarked “society doesn’t tell me what to do.” Whilst he’s not interested in being a husband, John Cusack is definitely interested in dating.
Some of John Cusack’s ex-girlfriends include British actress Minnie Driver, Canadian actress Neve Campbell, American model Brooke Burns, and American actress Uma Thurman. He has also had flings with model Janice Dickinson and actress Melissa Gilbert.
The Queen of Rock n Roll, Joan Jett is another famous face that hasn’t gotten married. The legendary rocker founded the Runaways when she was just 16 years old, and went on to front her own group. Joan Jett has been rather private about her own romantic life and has faced scrutiny about her orientation.
However, there have been rumors about who the rocker has hooked up with. Apparently, she’s been involved with actress Carmen Electra, musician John Lydon, and bandmate Cherie Currie.
Actress Marisa Tomei has wise words when it comes to her reasons for not getting hitched. In 2009 she said, “I’m not that big a fan of marriage as an institution, and I don’t know why women need to have children to be seen as complete human beings.”
We’re with you, Marisa! The Oscar winner was in a relationship with actor Logan Marshall-Green between 2008 and 2012. Though rumors flew that the couple was engaged, Marisa quickly shut those down.
While some stars are certain that they don’t want to be married, others are open to the idea. American actor Jeremy Piven has said, “It was never my master plan still be single at this age. It just kind of worked out that way. But I’m ready to not be single.” Alas, he still is.
The actor has dated British actresses Siobhan Dillon, Sophie Turner, and Camilla Cleese. However, he has also faced serious allegations about his actions towards women.
Our favorite 90s star Winona Ryder doesn’t want to get married unless she’s absolutely sure it’s right. In 2016 the actress remarked, “I’d rather never have been married than been divorced a few times […] When your parents are madly in love for 45 years, your standards are really high.”
Of course, Winona Ryder has had her share of famous boyfriends. She dated Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, and Christian Slater. She’s currently in a relationship with Scott Mackinlay Hahn.
According to actor and writer Seth MacFarlane, he shares some similarities with his fictional creation, Brian Griffin. He said, “I have some Brian-type issues from time to time, looking for the right person.” Despite this, he claims to be “wide open to getting married.”
However, Seth has also stated that it’s tough dating actors. He said, “You end up sharing that person with this other mistress that is their career.” Perhaps that’s why it didn’t work out with Emilia Clarke.
For various reasons, some people develop a bit of a phobia of marriage. Maybe it’s because of their parents, or maybe the commitment is just too overwhelming.
Actress Allison Janney has shared her fears – “I used to have a recurring dream that I would marry a man and, right after the ceremony, they’d turn into somebody completely different […] so, you could say I’ve had some fears about it.” On another occasion, she commented “I want to be a player! I’m still single!”
Rather shamefully, American actor Billy Crudup left actress Mary-Louise Parker when she was seven months pregnant with their son. Worse still, he left her in order to date fellow actress Clare Danes. Not cool! Now in his 50s, the star is still happily unmarried.
Billy Crudup was with Mary-Louise Parker from 1996 to 2003, and then with Clare Danes for several years. He recently made his red carpet debut with British actress Naomi Watts, who he’s been dating since 2017.
Many LGBTQ people have been unable to get married because of laws banning them from doing so. Or, some people from the community don’t want to be involved in an old-fashioned institution.
We’re not sure why celebrated British actor Ian McKellen has never tied the knot, but he hasn’t shied away from weddings. In fact, Sir Ian McKellen actually officiated his pal Patrick Stewart’s nuptials to singer Sunny Ozell. In the past, McKellen was linked to Nick Cuthell and Sean Mathias.
Benicio del Toro
Puerto Rican actor Benicio Del Toro has a pretty compelling reason for not getting married. He commented, “Why do I have to get married? Just so I can get divorced?” Hey, if you know your marriage won’t last, then that’s a pretty good reason not to go ahead with it.
Despite not wanting a formal commitment, Benicio del Toro is still a father. Due to a fling with Rod Stewart’s daughter Kimberley, he’s a dad to daughter Delilah, born in 2011.
Scottish actress Tilda Swinton mentioned in a 2021 interview that she identifies as queer. She commented, “I always felt I was queer – I was just looking for my queer circus, and I found it. And having found it, it’s my world.”
The star has two children with ex-partner John Patrick Byrne, a Scottish playwright. She has been in a relationship with German-New Zealand artist Sandro Kopp since 2004. As far as we can tell, marriage isn’t on the couple’s radar.
Despite looking like he’s in his 30s, actor Jared Leto is actually in his 50s. Yeah, really! When asked why he hadn’t tied the knot, the actor and musician commented, “It’s just how things are. I don’t think it’s a definitive decision that I’ve made.”
At one stage, Jared Leto did come close to being a married man. He was engaged to actress Cameron Diaz between 2002-2003, but they never made it down the aisle. He’s currently single.
Much like fellow rocker Joan Jett, marriage just wasn’t of interest to Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry. Again, just like Joan, Debbie also fooled around with one of her bandmates. In her case, it was guitarist Chris Stein. However, Harry has since claimed that she and Stein were dealing with addiction issues at the time.
She’s now the godmother of his two kids. Debbie Harry has also been linked to other rockers, including Joey Ramone and Iggy Pop. However, she lives happily with her four dogs.
He may have married Monica Geller in iconic sitcom Friends, but Matthew Perry is no Chandler Bing. The American-Canadian actor has dated some top names, including actresses Yasmine Bleeth, Julia Roberts, and Lizzy Caplan.
Plus, he came dangerously close to being a married man when he proposed to literary manager Molly Hurwitz in 2020. Alas, a year later the couple called off the engagement. Matthew Perry stated, “Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them.”
We’ve already mentioned actress Mary-Louise Parker on our list so far. If you’ll recall, she was seven months pregnant when actor Billy Crudup left her for Clare Danes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the actress wasn’t in a hurry to get married after that.
In 2015 she said, “Maybe a psychiatrist would say I’m not married now because I have some sort of father thing, but you know what? That would be the least of my problems.” Mary Louise Parker is now a mom of two.
American actor Adrien Brody was the youngest person to win the Academy Award for Best Actor back in 2002. Over the years, he’s been romantically involved with American actress January Jones, Russian model Lara Lieto and English actress Kiera Knightley.
Plus, the star was briefly engaged to Spanish actress and model Elsa Pataky. Nowadays, Adrian Brody is dating English fashion designer and actress Georgina Chapman. Interestingly, she is the ex-wife of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. Perhaps this is Adrian’s final relationship!
It’s well documented that actors Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have been in a relationship for years now. To be precise, they started dating in 2012 and have two kids together. Overall, Eva just isn’t that bothered by marriage.
She thinks it’s old-fashioned and isn’t impressed by the idea of being a wife. She even dislikes the word. In an interview, she said, “It’s a very old-fashioned, archaic kind of thing. We did it for land originally. How unromantic is that?”
Eva Mendes does have a point. Marriage is a pretty old-fashioned institution. Who says people need to have a legal document in order to be together or raise children? Journalist Anderson Cooper certainly doesn’t need one. He’s a dad of two who co-parents with his ex-boyfriend Benjamin Maisani at a historic estate in Connecticut.
Well, would you expect someone from the Vanderbilt family to raise their kids in a regular home? We thought not. Anderson is a dad to two sons – Wyatt Morgan and Sebastian Luke.
And what about his bestie? Fellow broadcaster Andy Cohen is also raising a couple of kids without a ring on his finger. The Bravo host and producer has recently welcomed his second child via surrogate, without a marriage certificate in sight.
Both Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper have spoken about being there for each other when it comes to raising their kids. The pioneering broadcasters are certainly doing things their own way, and why not? Plus, little Ben and Lucy Cohen are adorable!
Some people feel that getting married would change the dynamic of their relationship. Maybe it would add pressure, make someone feel trapped, or just become a dreary daily burden. For whatever reason, some couples like to just keep things as they are.
As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has been in a relationship with Stedman Graham since 1986. She has said, “Had we tied the marital knot, we would not still be together.”
American actress, comedian, producer, and writer Mindy Kaling has had an impressive career. She’s worked on various extremely successful shows and picked up multiple Emmy nominations. While Mindy’s work usually deals with romantic relationships, she’s taken a different path when it comes to creating a family.
The star has two children — a daughter and a son — but hasn’t revealed their biological father to anyone. Whilst she dated co-star BJ Novak at one stage, the pair are now close friends. BJ is even godfather to Kaling’s little girl!
We could make an educated guess that actor Leonardo DiCaprio will be a lifelong bachelor. However, we said that about George Clooney too and look what happened there. Leo is known for dating younger women, especially models.
But, will he one day settle down for good? In 2016, the actor said, “That time will come when it comes […] the truth is that you can’t predict marriage. You can’t plan it. It’s just going to happen when it happens.”
What about a historical example? Founder and fashion designer Coco Chanel had a huge impact on fashion. She replaced the restrictive corsets of the pre-war era with a sporty casual style for women. Of course, her brand has continued to dominate the world of high fashion ever since.
Though she passed away at 87 years old, Coco Chanel never got married or had children. However, she did have relationships with aristocrats and heirs. Clearly, Chanel wasn’t one to settle down.
When it comes to cool older women, Diane Keaton is definitely up there. The multi-award-winning actress is celebrated for her work as well as her beloved fashion sense. Plus, she’s in her 70s and has never gotten hitched. Goals!
Of course, Diane Keaton is often asked if she regrets being unmarried. She has said, “I don’t think about it a lot but I’m aware of the fact that I’m unusual in that regard […] but then, nobody can have everything, right?”
We were surprised to learn that actress Kristin Davis has never been married. Perhaps we’re so used to the marriage-obsessed Charlotte York Goldenblatt that we were unable to separate them in our minds.
But, much like her most well-known fictional counterpart, Kristin does have adopted kids. In 2014, Kristin remarked, “I certainly intellectually feel like I’d like to have another romantic relationship, but I don’t know how to make the day-to-day of it happen. I don’t have time!”
Actor and comedian Drew Carey has a military background, which is why he sports a short crew cut. The star has been engaged on a number of occasions, but like the others on our list, he’s never been married.
Drew Carey was engaged to Nicole Jaracz in 2007, but they called it off in 2012. After that, he was engaged to therapist Amie Harwick, who was later tragically murdered by her ex-boyfriend. At the moment, it seems that the star is single.
One of the most compelling reasons for not getting married is the fear that you’ll get bored. And really, it’s best that those people are honest with themselves and those around them.
Comedian, TV host, and commentator Bill Maher can’t get his head around the idea of committing to one woman. He has said, “I’ve never understood how you can just be with the same person, day after day, week after week, year after year. I just don’t get that.”
Actress Edie Falco has a pretty great reason for not wanting to get married. When asked if she was sad that she wasn’t hitched, she said that she hadn’t seen anything appealing in most marriages. Wow! Well, that’s a truth bomb.
We can definitely see Edie’s point — there are plenty of unhappy marriages around. Edie clarified that she’s not sad about anything in her life. When asked if she would consider getting hitched, she replied, “It has to be the really right person at this point.”
For some reason, we had assumed that Colombian superstar Shakira was married to Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué. But alas, they were simply in a committed relationship from 2011 until just recently.
Prior to that, the Queen of Latin Music was in another long-term relationship — this time with Argentine lawyer Antonio de la Rúa. Shakira has a rather compelling reason for never saying “I do.” She told an interviewer, “The truth is I’m more afraid of marriage than death.”
Now in his 80s, actor Al Pacino has remained unmarried for his entire life. Is there a trophy for that? The multi-award-winning actor has been in long-term relationships, but he has never fully settled down. Despite this, Al Pacino is a father of three.
He has a daughter with acting coach Jan Tarrant, and twins with actress Beverly D’Angelo. Al Pacino was also in a relationship with co-star Diane Keaton, who admits to be being head over heels in love with the star.
She was one of the world’s top-earning models, but Tyra Banks doesn’t seem interested in being a wifey. The TV personality dated Norwegian photographer Erik Asla back in the 2010s, and they had a son together. While they still co-parent son York, they ended their romantic relationship in 2017.
Overall, Tyra is pretty secretive when it comes to her personal life. It’s thought that she’s currently dating Canadian businessman Louis Bélanger-Martin. Supposedly, the couple has been together since 2019.
English comedian Ricky Gervais is definitely outspoken about his lack of religious beliefs. That’s part of the reason the star hasn’t tied the knot with long-term partner, English author Jane Fallon. The pair have been together for almost 40 years and met in college, long before Ricky found fame.
Speaking in 2014, Gervais said, “I don’t think there’s any point to us getting married. We don’t want any more toasters, we never want our families to meet, that’d be terrible.”
Similarly, American actress Lauren Graham has never felt the need to make her long-term relationship official. Much like Ricky Gervais, she feels that her relationship is fine as it is, without including religion or the law. We get it!
The actress has been in a relationship with her co-star, Peter Krause, since 2010. Adorably, they got together while working on a show. Before finding Peter, Lauren Graham dated actors Marc Blucas, Matthew Perry, and Tate Donovan.
American actress and comedian Maya Rudolph has been in a relationship with director Paul Thomas Anderson since 2001. Despite not being married, the star still refers to Anderson as her husband.
She explained that the word boyfriend felt “ooky” after the pair welcomed their first child. She said that “husband” means “he’s the father of my child, and I live with him, and we are a couple, and we are not going anywhere.” Hey, if it works for them then why not?
Can you believe Captain America himself is still single? He’s one of the world’s highest-paid actors, he’s handsome, and he seems like a pretty great guy. However, Chris Evans likes the single life. He has said, “I’m the one who feels enveloped… If I’m with someone who just kind of adopts my life, that can feel a bit suffocating.”
Despite his reservations, Chris Evans has excellent taste. He has dated actress Jessica Biel, actress Minka Kelly, and actress-comedian Jenny Slate.
Lots of people go through life knowing that they never want to get married. South African actress Charlize Theron is one of those people. However, she did joke in 2019 that “someone just needs to grow a pair and step up. I’m shockingly available.”
The actress has dated high-profile men in the past. She was with American actor Craig Bierko in the ’90s, and American singer Stephan Jenkins in the 00s. She then dated Irish actor Stuart Townsend, and American actor Sean Penn.
When asked about marriage in 2019, Grammy award winner Sheryl Crow said, “I would love to get married. But I don’t think it’s the end-all, be-all.” That sounds like a healthy approach.
Sheryl has been involved with several eligible men. She dated musician Eric Clapton and actor Owen Wilson in the ’90s. She was then engaged to cyclist Lance Armstrong, but their relationship came to a close in 2006. The star now has two adopted children that she raises in Tennessee.
Some of the celebs on our list like to keep their private lives on the down low. This includes Canadian actor Keanu Reeves, who doesn’t say much about his love life. The star suffered a tragic loss when his girlfriend Jennifer Syme lost her life in a vehicle collision in 2001.
Fans were heartened when the actor appeared on a red carpet with artist Alexandra Grant in 2019. Apparently, the couple has been together for several years, and they’ve even worked on two books together.
According to TV personality and music executive Simon Cowell, he has never planned to get married. He told an interviewer, “I think with anything in life, just let things happen rather than plan. I’m saying that all the good things that have ever happened in my life I’ve never, ever planned.”
Simon Cowell is currently engaged to Lauren Silverman, the mother of his child. It remains to be seen whether the English mogul will eventually be a married man.
Lastly, we close our list with someone who has been rather outspoken about her thoughts on marriage. Like many others, comedian Chelsea Handler wasn’t impressed the hubbub surrounding a wedding.
However, in 2016 she said, “I realize now that you can be committed to someone without that commercialization and all that nonsense. So, now I’d get married. Now that I’m single and have no viable options.” Chelsea Handler is currently dating fellow comedian Jo Koy.
