Dating can be a challenging activity to do properly. Even with all the routes available to finding that special someone, many people resort to online dating. It’s easy and you can do it from the comfort of your home, which makes it very appealing for those that are a little more introverted than others. However, awkward conversations and introductions are still very prevalent, even in online forums. Here are perhaps some of the cringiest dating app encounters and profiles we’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.
Why Are You Single?
When you’re getting to know someone, there’s a whole slew of questions that come to mind. As you dive deeper, sometimes the questions get a little more personal, which just means that you’re getting to know each other better.
However, asking someone why they’ve been single for two years might be a little too invasive. We only say that because it means they have to really look inside, but this person’s response was pretty hilarious.
Do You Know How Fast You Were Going?
One of the hardest things to do when you’re setting up your online dating profile is to come up with a catchy bio that will draw people in. You want to be a little funny and a little flirty, but not too vulgar.
We’re not sure that this cop quite managed that balance! Though it’s quite funny and definitely memorable, his bio is also a tad bit cringy.
Sometimes, when you’re dating, it’s inevitable that you wind up talking about world events with your partner. This often means that you will occasionally have to answer some questions about political situations in your home country.
This person’s answer to their potential date’s question seems to be pretty on-point. Luckily, the other person felt it was funny, because this could have been the end of the conversation.
For many people, one of the most attractive things is when someone can laugh at themselves. Typically, though, most people don’t think this is necessarily needed when you have a handicap.
But, this girl wants suitors to meet her disability head-on and address the fact that she’s really into grammar. We’re sure that this dating profile made more than one person a little uncomfortable, though!
Taking the Temperature
No matter what age or gender you are, there are always things that you have on your list of must-have attributes. For some, this may be more about the physical attributes and for others, it may be more about the intellectual or emotional attributes.
Apparently, for this girl, none of that matters as long as her potential match is on the same wavelength as her when it comes to the temperature of the room.
When your life orbits completely around what you do for a living, sometimes you crave another person to share that with. For this respiratory therapy student, she thought it would be a good idea to incorporate a little bit of humor into her profile.
Some may find this bio cute, while others might find it a little threatening. Maybe it would just be better to have said looking for someone to share a drink and dinner with, instead of talking about taking their breath away.
One of the quickest ways to gain attention when using a dating site is to have pictures with pets. There are very few that can refuse the cuteness of an adorable puppy or beautiful kitten. However, if you have a picture with a pet, you better make sure that it’s yours.
Otherwise, you may wind up like this person. If you ask us, it’s kind of a bit of false advertising and would definitely be disappointing.
Let Me Help
Some people just have poor taste when it comes to choosing significant others. Despite that, those closest to them know that they deserve love, and some even go the extra mile to make sure they find it. Take, for instance, this grandpa!
We’re not sure if this is cute or sad! Maybe if grandpa was smiling, this profile wouldn’t be so cringy, and the girl might actually get a few messages too.
One of the biggest hurdles with online dating is getting ghosted. Very few of the people that choose to ghost would actually make it this fun for the other party, but this conversation is definitely a fun one.
We’re sure the other person thought this was starting to turn into a pretty interesting conversation. That is, until they realized where it was actually going.
What’s in a Name?
Being able to make someone laugh can be an amazing gift. It can also be a great asset when you’re traversing through the jungles of online dating. Being able to laugh at childhood trauma might even be more appealing — at least for some.
This guy, whose parents decided to name him Marco, wanted to leave a lasting impression. So, he used it as a comedic bio line.
Sometimes, if you’ve been using online dating for quite a while, all the conversations seem to be pretty much the same. They start with “How are you doing?” and go from there. You can tell from this conversation that both parties are becoming jaded by this repetitive practice.
Although, this makes this conversation not only unique — but kind of funny as well. We certainly hope that these two generic online daters found generic love and lived happily ever after.
It takes a very special type of person to enjoy puns. This person clearly is playing to her market by including a little bit of a pun when it comes to her name — though we’re not sure it really landed well.
Do you really need to go the vulgar route to make someone stop and read your profile? Because of this, we’re sure many people felt a little cringey about even reading the entire tagline.
On Second Thought
When you’re meeting up for the first time, you have to put your best foot forward. This means getting dressed up according to wherever you’re planning on meeting, and looking your best. It also means being on time at the designated spot.
It seems that this person might be a little late because of their poor fashion choices. But, hey, good news — at least they were willing to change it when they realized it was going to hinder their chances with the other person.
Laying it All Out
There’s a big debate on how honest you should be on your dating profile. Many feel that it’s perfectly acceptable to fudge facts a little bit, and to limit certain things that may deter people from swiping right. Others think this is wholly wrong, and that you should lay it all out on the table for them.
This young woman chose to lay it all out on the line. She was fully aware enough to know that some of her positive attributes could be looked at as negative ones as well.
You have to find someone that will understand all of your idiosyncrasies and be okay with those geeky things that you’re really fanatical about. This guy was trying his hardest to impress the girl, but he seemed to have let his little geek flag slip out, and now he just has to wait.
Hopefully, he doesn’t have to wait too long before the girl replies whether she thought this was a cute interaction, or if it’s time to move on.
That One Time
Taking tragedy and making it into a comedic moment is not an easy thing to do. This type of comedy may not land well on dating profiles, because not everybody will possess the dark sense of humor that it takes to appreciate it.
We really think that Julie has a profile that’s going to be a hit or miss, unlike that truck that one time. We know that was a little cringey, but we couldn’t resist!
Finding another individual that shares your unique sense of humor is challenging. Even though this text chain is cringy to us, these two seem to be a perfect match for each other. They fit together like tea and honey.
It takes a special someone to be able to make tea sound sensual. We do wonder how long they would be able to keep up with all the tea references, though!
Honesty Is the Best Policy
Sometimes, when you’ve been single for so long, you just give up a little bit. You decide that there’s no reason not to be truthful and be yourself, even when it comes to your dating profile. That may be what happened to this young woman.
Although, it’s nice to find someone that’s being completely honest on their profile. Plus it never hurts to find someone who has a good healthy appetite and that can cook.
Sometimes, when you’re beginning a conversation over an online platform, you still get nervous when it comes to what to say. This often makes you ask things that are sort of generic, and then try to back it up with a little bit of humor.
Other times, the issue arises when something gets auto-corrected. We’re sure that this guy isn’t sure how to take the conversation, because they haven’t been talking that long.
One of the biggest no-no’s in an online dating profile is to mention your exes. So, this young woman — who seems to be trying to be funny while still enticing people to swipe right on her profile — started on the wrong foot.
On top of that, the profile picture isn’t really that flattering and so, though we’re sure she didn’t mean to be this way, the entire profile just reads a little bit on the cringey side.
You Were Wrong
It’s vital that, when you set up your profile, you choose the right pictures that show your personality and who you are. It’s also good if they show a little bit of what you’re interested in. This gal apparently picked a pretty good picture in a nice sweater.
However, during the actual conversation, she started talking about his mom, and that’s just a huge red flag to most people.
Working the Odds
Some people are open to dating anyone and so, when they create their profile, they try to cover all their bases. That must be what this guy thought of when he wrote his bio the way he did. Someone should tell him that this is not the way to go.
Clearly, he thinks younger girls are out for money and older women are only out for something else. We’re pretty sure this profile doesn’t get much play.
A Few Steps Away
Occasionally, when you’re swiping through online profiles, you’re going to find one that seems to be relatively close to you. It could be really close if you are like this person, who seems to have matched with someone in the same building.
We would start thinking about if it was somebody we had ever met before, wouldn’t we? Even still, the fact that they can yell out the windows and hear each other could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how the date goes.
Being cute and a little creative in your online profile is not a bad thing. However, taking it too far could be detrimental to matching with the right person. This young woman definitely was trying to be a little clever, and it seems to have failed.
It would have probably just been best if she talked about what she was looking for and things she was interested in, rather than writing a creative piece of fiction.
Over the last few years, dating has changed a lot because of the world situation. Due to this, online dating has boomed and there are many conversations that start with, “How is quarantine treating you?”
We’re sure that when this gentleman talked about being essential, he wasn’t thinking anything of it. Unfortunately, the conversation quickly got a little cringy when he realized maybe he wasn’t as essential as other people.
Choosing to go the comedic route when it comes to your online dating profile can completely backfire if you’re not careful. This young lady thought she was being funny, but some people may find it to be a little cringey — or completely off-putting.
Comedy is a very personal preference and when you choose to go that route, you’re limiting your options — or at least that’s what we’ve been told.
Even when it comes to online dating, there has to be a level of competency when it comes to flirting. In fact, it’s almost a necessity in this type of dating, because there’s no physical contact at first.
So, this guy being honest about not being able to flirt may have been pretty endearing to this woman. It seems to be working, because she’s clearly flirting back with him.
Here’s My Presentation
Creating a dating profile is almost like building a PowerPoint presentation on who you are and why you’re worth dating. That being said, it doesn’t have to be as intense as this young lady’s profile is. This might be a little scary for some people.
We appreciate the dedication to being as thorough as possible, but dating profiles are meant to be an introduction — not your whole life story!
Having pictures on your profile that show places you like to visit or have visited can be pretty enticing to potential dates. However, they can also be pretty misleading apparently. This woman thought that he was some sort of interior decorator because he decided to post a picture from IKEA.
Although he’s not an interior designer, at least it shows he has good taste. Plus, he was honest about the fact that it was IKEA, which should be a point in his favor.
Laughing Through It
Sometimes, when you’re a person that has a disability, many people feel uncomfortable at first hanging around you. That’s why many people with disabilities create a sense of humor that may seem a little off-putting to some.
Typically, this sense of humor should not be used in your online dating profile. That should be saved until you get to know the person a little bit better. Although this is humorous, it probably isn’t getting many swipes.
There are moments in conversations when talking with people you met through online dating platforms when you just know it isn’t gonna work. Sometimes, it’s because they have an odd sense of humor — and other times, it’s because one is a little deeper than the other.
This guy just wanted to make sure he would be able to play his chosen Monopoly piece, and the other person went completely philosophical. Although opposites attract, we’re pretty sure these two didn’t work out.
Humor is a good personality trait, but there are certain things that just shouldn’t be joked about, at least not in your dating profile. Once you meet someone and you can gauge how they’re going to react to an off-the-cuff joke, it’s fine.
This young lady trying to be humorous about her situation, though, chose a poor joke as her opening line. It might very well be offensive, but at the very least, it’s a bit cringy.
Stuck in the Past
When you’re dating online, you’re going to meet some very unique people. The profiles that you swipe on don’t tell the whole story, because they’re so short. However, not being open to that could leave you sounding like a bit of a jerk.
This person was just trying to have some fun with words, and the other person took it a little too far. At least they had a good sense of humor about it, and chose to participate in the conversation in their own unique way.
Online dating sites are meant to help people find friends as well as romantic partners. They’re typically not used for advertisements for your girlfriend’s hair and makeup business. For us, this sounds a little fishy.
Maybe this guy is using this as a cover, so that he can get girls to swipe and meet up with him behind his girlfriend’s back. It’s a little too cringey for us, so we’re sure we wouldn’t swipe on it.
Sometimes, life happens and you have to postpone dates. This could be because you got called into work, or something came up healthwise. However, texting someone that you’ve started your monthly cycle to reschedule seems like a little bit too much information.
It must just be us because apparently, this guy was okay with getting this text, and he completely understood he might be a keeper.
Help Me Out
It’s always nice when a friend really cares about your well-being and wants you to find someone to be happy with. However, that’s not what this profile was created to do, and honestly, this seems like a little bit of a jerk move on the part of this roommate.
At least they really painted the roommate in a good light, and gave her a lot of great positive qualities.
When you’re really getting to know someone that may potentially wind up being your significant other, you want to know about everything — from where they grew up, to their dreams. However, you have to be pretty clear when you ask about their dreams, otherwise, you’ll get an answer like this person did.
We don’t know about you, but if we were this person, we would look up some sort of dream analysis to see what that dream was about before we continued chatting up this potential suitor.
After several failed relationships, sometimes people get beaten down and just resign to what life has given them. This person seems to be pretty jaded, but still willing to get out there and try to find someone.
It seems that the person is pretty interested, but we’re not sure how long that’ll last if she continues to answer like this. After all, it’ll get pretty exhausting if that’s what she thinks her life is all about.
In your dating profile, it’s nice to share little pieces of your life with the potential people you may be dating; things like your nickname and what you’re into are great. However, expanding upon why you got that nickname may be something to save for a later date.
This young woman chose to not only do that, but also try to make it clever and humorous too. Unfortunately, it just comes off a little cringey and kind of threatening — if you ask us.
Tell it Like it Is
For some people that are looking to find their forever soulmate, the idea of kids and whether to have them or not is an important thing to discuss. That’s why many people go ahead and start in their profile by telling people what they want.
This conversation between these two could go either way, but for the most part, we think it went pretty well. At least the person’s being honest and up front as to why they don’t want to have kids.
Not a Glowing Endorsement
The purpose of your dating profile is to entice people to swipe, and begin a conversation with you. So, although being humorously condescending to yourself can be quite daring to some, doing it in your dating profile might be a bad choice.
Besides, this person is selling themselves a little short. We’re sure that someone finds them cute, and that someone thinks they have a nice personality.
It’s pretty obvious to most why someone would download a dating app and start searching for their special someone. If you were someone who asked this, you have to be ready to take in everything that the other person wants to share with you.
This person got exactly what they asked for, and a pretty sad story, if you ask us. Although we do have to say that it’s quite humorous as well.
Creative Short Story
Being creative is very appealing to a lot of people. In fact, there are many people that find this as one of the most important things to have as an attribute when they’re looking for a significant other. With that in mind, being a little creative in your dating profile might be a good idea.
However, going into a full-on creative short story is not necessarily a great thing, because although it will set your profile apart, it may also detract from your overall appeal.
Stepped in It
You have to be careful with how you phrase things or ask things because sometimes, people can take it the wrong way. This is especially true when you’re dealing with men and women, as there are many stereotypes that will set people off.
So, when this guy asked about the football thing, he should have known that this was going to be the last conversation they ever had — especially once she replied the way she did.
Apply With a Resume
This dating profile is all kinds of wrong! First off, being a little funny and over the top could backfire greatly. But, looking for a beard so that you don’t have to answer any questions when you go to a family get-together on a dating website seems to be a little wrong.
On top of this, this person wants them to apply with a resume, which seems a little crazy. We’re sure this is all meant to be funny, however, all it does is put people off of actually swiping on the profile.
