It’s safe to say that the worldwide pandemic we’re still in has completely changed our lives. It has also affected the movie industry by halting production, closing down cinemas, and making it difficult to schedule release dates in the midst of it all. That’s why potential blockbusters like The Batman got a new, delayed premiere date (and year). Originally set to hit theaters on October 1st, 2021, we won’t get to see dear old Batman until March 4th, 2022. Hold your tears, as there’s good news despite it all.

The Batman Moves to 2022

Starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman, and Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, The Batman is a much anticipated new look at the iconic DC character. After a turbulent pre-production period, where Ben Affleck was set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne after Batman vs Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, it finally became clear that he would be stepping down and a whole new script would be developed.

It wasn’t until mid-2019 that Robert Pattinson was cast to replace Affleck. Filming began in January 2020, but it was paused multiple times due to the pandemic, including a two-week quarantine for the entire filming crew after Pattinson tested positive for the virus. That’s what led the producers and Warner Bros. to push the premiere date to March 2022.

Matrix 4 Will Hit Theaters Earlier

It’s not all bad, you see. Despite The Batman and Dune getting delayed among other anticipated productions, there is still reason to celebrate. Matrix 4 was actually pulled for an earlier release! Yes, the fourth installment of the iconic franchise starring beloved Keanu Reeves has been moved from April 1st, 2022, to — drumrolls — December 22nd, 2021. This means that we’ll have an awesome portion of quality screen time right before Christmas. Not bad, eh?
