Potential Cities for an MLB Team
MLB is an organization that combines professional baseball teams in the United States and Canada. It’s the oldest major professional sports league in both the US and Canada. It consists of 30 teams, 15 of which play in the National League, while the other 15 play in the American League. Each league is divided into three divisions — East, Central, and West. The divisions are each made up of five teams. These are five potential cities that may have their very own MLB team soon.
Why not have an MLB team in Vegas? The Aces (WNBA) and the Golden Knights (NHL) are from Vegas, and one of the most prominent teams in the NFL, the Raiders, is moving to Vegas for the 2020 season. There’s enough room to build a stadium close to the strip, which makes sense for the move.
After 16 years, it’s time for baseball to return to Montreal. A new stadium could help, and some fans are ready and waiting. Now it’s time for those higher up to take initiative and make it happen.
A 3rd MLB team in Texas? Is it really necessary? Probably not, but there’s no denying that it may happen. It’s one of the largest TV markets in the US, and the city is thriving. The San Antonio Spurs (NBA) often play in front of sold-out crowds, and the state is large enough to have a potential franchise in San Antonio with a solid support base.
If the MLB decides to make its first move south of the border, Mexico City is more than likely to be the first landing spot. There have been 3 major sports leagues that have committed to play games in Mexico City over the past few years and those include the MLB, NFL, and NBA. While the league is looking to expand, it looks like Mexico City may be the front-runner.
MLB traveled across the pond in 2019 and had a two-game series between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The turnout was incredible, and both games had more than 59,000 fans. Since the league is looking to expand, London has a fair chance at landing the spot. The European market is still untapped for the league, but the NFL has proved that the UK fans are most definitely energized when it comes to American sports.
